Do I Need To Renew A Private Pilot License?

The short answer is no, you’ll never need to renew your private pilot license (PPL). As regulation § 61.19 says that private pilot certificates are issued without an expiration date. However, you can’t fly unless you meet the appropriate airman and medical recency requirements, specific to the relevant type of flying you want to do.

Overall, private pilots need to obtain a third-class medical certificate from an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). After that, you can apply for your plastic private pilot license. They usually take six to eight weeks to arrive.
