North Star Aviation Flight Training Programs

At North Star Aviation, you can choose from two main flight training paths. They offer private certifications and other top-level ratings on a case-by-case basis to people who are simply interested in learning how to fly as a hobby. More importantly, they have partnered with Minnesota State University – Mankato to offer a more traditional college curriculum to students interested in becoming a career pilot or aviation industry professional.

Minnesota State University Mankato Flight Training Programs

For those enrolled in MNSU’s flight training program, students will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation with a concentration in Professional Flight, Aviation Management, or Aeronautics. In addition, there are minors available for more nuanced training in private flight. The programs through this aviation college take four years to complete.

How Much Does Flight Training Cost?

In terms of tuition costs through North Star Aviation, you can expect to pay about $146,000, including aviation fees of about $81,000, over a four-year period. There are several scholarships available through MNSU flight school, awarded at the Annual Aviation Banquet, hosted every spring. Additionally, there are several other scholarships available that are open to almost anyone and can be applied to schools around the country.

How Many Instructors Work at This Flight School?

There are 13 total flight instructors at North Star Aviation, covering the ratings of Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (CFII) and Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI).

What Aircraft Will I Train In?

Students at North Star Aviation will train in either Piper or Cessna aircraft. Models include:

 

  • Piper Archer
  • Piper Seminole PA-44-180
  • Piper Warrior III PA-28-A
  • Cessna 152

North Star Aviation also provides a number of flight simulators for students that provide extra, essential training. They are in stock of a new CRJ-700 Jet Simulator and two Redbird Flight Simulators, offering full-motion platforms and three configurations. Mankato Regional Airport is also an official testing center for FAA Knowledge Tests. PSI Test Center for FAA Exams is open on Monday and Wednesday through Friday while PSI ATLAS Testing is open on Tuesdays only.
