With that being said, there are plenty of fun things to do and see in Mound – let’s take a look.

About Mound

The town of Mound began to take shape when prominent Minnesota governor and senator, Alexander Ramsey claimed Lake Minnetonka in the mid 1800s. Its unique name is taken from a series of ancient Native American mounds that were constructed in the area thousands of years ago.  In the early days, the town grew alongside neighboring suburbs like Minnetonka, Wayzata and Excelsior, thanks to its location on Cooks Bay, a frequent stop of steamboaters and fishermen. In 1900, the northside business district that we know today grew rapidly thanks to the introduction of a new Great Northern Railroad line, ushering a larger working and residential population. One of the most famous businesses to set up shop here was Tonka Toys, which was headquartered in Mound for nearly four decades. As the 20th century progressed, Mound became a popular lakeside destination, as a number of resorts, lodging and even a casino were built. The city’s strong tourism industry continued well into the modern era and helped mark its spot as a highly sought-after place to live and visit. Today, the town is known as an affluent suburb thanks to its location, valuable real estate, great schools and thriving commerce sector. So, whether you’re a resident or tourist of Mound, let’s explore some of the great things you can do in this suburb.
