Whether you’re a local or just visiting, you’re probably excited to get out and enjoy some of the many wonderful things to do in Wayzata. And, believe us, there’s plenty to experience.

So, if you’re looking for the best things to do in Wayzata, give one or all of the following a try!

1) Lounge on Wayzata Beach

Wayzata Beach occupies prime territory along Lake Minnetonka’s shores, and is a favorite among locals. Set up shop on the sand with a towel and soak up the sun, go for a swim or just people watch. Stations along the beach offer paddle board, wind surf and kayak rental, while nearby restaurants and breweries supply plenty of great dining and drinking opportunities.

2) Take-In the Sunset Against Wayzata Bay

Wayzata Bay is a gorgeous sight at any hour of the day, however when twilight hits, you’ll see something truly spectacular. The sun setting against the backdrop of an expansive Lake Minnetonka brings out beautiful colors in the water and sky. And, even though it’s spectacular from shore, it’s that much better from a boat. Put your boat in the water at Gray’s Bay public boat launch just a few minutes away, drop anchor and take in the sun as it sinks into the great lake.

3) Explore The Dakota Rail Regional Trail

For those with an outdoorsy spirit, the Dakota Rail Regional Trail is a popular local destination for bikers, in-line skaters and hikers of all types. With 13 miles of paved trails, ranging in difficulty from easy to medium, the path winds through wetlands, wooded areas, agricultural land and scenic overlooks of Lake Minnetonka.

4) Rent a Boat and Explore the Lake

With such a great location on the north side of Lake Minnetonka, it’s the perfect place to cast off from. Whether you want to rent your own boat and act as captain, or sit-back on a charter cruise, there’s plenty of options. For pontoons and fishing boats, look to Rockvam Rentals; for pontoons, jet skis and charters, check out Minnetonka Boat Club; and for an alacarte selection, try Boatsetter.

5) Golf, Swim & Dine at a Country Club

We all know that country clubs are popular among the affluent thanks to the high-end amenities they provide members. If you’re able to swing a membership, you’ll gain access to some of the finest golfing, tennis, recreational facilities and dining in Wayzata. All it takes is an application or invitation to either Woodhill or Wayzata Country Clubs, and you’ll be living the life.

6) Take a Self-Guided Walking Tour

If you’d rather spend your time learning about local history rather than take a dip in the lake, then Wayzata’s historical society offers a fun, educational self-guided walking tour. Visit on foot or bike, or enjoy a virtual tour from the comfort of your own home. Visit this site for printable maps, audio and more.

7) Fish at Tanager Lake

For a private fishing spot away from the business of Lake Minnetonka, head to the 52-acre Tanager Lake. Anglers can expect to catch everything from Black Bullhead, Bluegill, Brown Bullhead, Largemouth Bass, Muskie, Northern Pike, Walleye, White Crappie, Yellow Bullhead, Yellow Perch, Pumpkinseed and.
