Edina, Minnesota is home to beautiful, natural outdoor recreation areas, plenty of high-end shopping and more than enough dining and entertainment options for all palettes. Plus, as one of the more affluent suburbs of the greater Twin Cities area, there are gorgeous neighborhoods, lots of history and plenty of things to gawk at.  As summer heats up, it’s a great time to partake in some fantastic activities to enjoy in the city of Edina. The governor’s executive orders are still in place, however that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy some fun, safe activities this time of year.

Here are 10 summer activities to do in Edina — let’s take a look!

1) Rent a Shelter and Enjoy a Picnic

Have a small get-together of close family or friends at an Edina park, where reservations have resumed. Pack a basket of delicious sandwiches, some drinks and organize some activities, and experience a classic summer day.

2) Recreation at Centennial Lakes Park

This 24-acre park in the heart of Edina is the perfect place to relax on a shady knoll, rent paddle boats and enjoy the 10-acre man-made lake, or ice skate in the winter. The park also has 1.5-miles of pathway, swinging benches, plenty of seating areas and even a miniature golf course.

3) Ride Along Nine-Mile Creek Trail

If you’re up for a bike ride, Nine-Mile Creek Regional Trail is a long bike path and walkway that runs from eastern Edina through the north side and connects to the larger Three Rivers Parks system. This trail leads to much longer rides through the extensive Minneapolis Greenway, Minnehaha Creek and Grand Rounds Trails.

4) Explore Bredesen Park

Check two of things off your list, by taking the Nine-Mile Creek Trail through Bredesen Park, which is a great off-shoot of the trail system. This area is full of protected, Minnesota-style wilderness, and features several miles of trails, much of it upon raised boardwalk.

5) Golf a Round at Braemer

Braemer put Edina on the map of great golf courses in the U.S. Whether you want to hit 9 or 18 holes, or sharpen your skills on the driving range, this course is built to impress. With a Championship-style design, the best of the best head here whenever they need a round on the links.

6) Join a Country Club

As some of the most expensive and high-end destinations in the U.S., country clubs aren’t a dime a dozen. And Edina is home to two world-class country clubs: Interlachen and Edina Country Club. For those that are looking for private golfing, delicious dining and access to an exclusive group of people and amenities, a membership to either of these clubs are a great way to improve the summer.

7) Take a Self-Guided Historic Tour

The Edina Heritage Preservation Commission, along with City staff, created a three-mile, 6,500-step loop that takes self-guided participants through a tour of historical places in Edina. Experience Edina as it once was, with stops at St. Stephen’s Church, Cahill School, Brown Family Farm and Edina Country Club, among others. Visit this website to learn more.

8) Go Past Famous Area Houses

Did you know that Edina was once home to a famous Hollywood actress, chart-topping musician and legendary architect? It’s true — Mary Tyler Moore, John Denver and Frank Lloyd Wright all lived in the city at one point, and their places of residence still stand today. A drive, bike or walk between each of the various properties can provide a good way to kill an afternoon.

9) Retreat for Lake-Side Fun on Bryant Lake

Whether you like boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming or just lounging on the beach, Bryant Lake is your go-to Edina destination. Plus, with over 170 acres of recreational area to explore, including an 18-hole disc course, land-lovers can also have fun here.

10) Take a Discovery Flight

If you’ve always dreamt of taking the controls and flying your own airplane, a discovery flight can help you check that item off your bucket list. A discovery flight is a low-cost way to fly a small aircraft with the help of a professional pilot. Inflight Pilot Training, for example, offers one-hour of airtime and introductory instruction. Even if you don’t end up enrolling in flight school afterwards, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience and a unique way to see the local sights.
