7 Fun Summer Activities for Teenagers – Why Not Try Flying Lessons?

As a teenager, especially those with the summer off from school, it can be tough to keep boredom at bay and find fun things to do. Sometimes, you have to think outside the box to keep yourself entertained. Luckily, we’ve done that for you with today’s post.

Here are seven fun summer activities that are perfect for teenagers — let’s get started!

1) Enroll in a Camp Specific to Your Interests

Whether you’re interested in baseball, painting, computer coding or outdoor recreation, there are a number of summer camps that serve almost every unique interest of a teen. Plus, not only are summer camps fun and rewarding, teens are exposed to new groups of people, some who are likely to become lifelong friends.

2) Night Games

There is something special about playing night games during the summer with fellow neighborhood teens. When the sun dips behind the horizon, that’s when the fun truly begins. From Kick the Can to Ghosts in the Graveyard to Cops and Robbers, there are plenty of fun night games to play with a group of friends that will make time fly.

3) Host a Sale and Make Some Extra Cash

Hold a garage sale and get rid of old toys, games, clothes or anything else you think can bring in some extra cash. Or you can sell stuff that you, your parents or siblings don’t want on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or eBay. You could even set up your own Etsy shop and start selling something unique of your own. Take that extra cash and spend it on something fun, like a date, concert or sporting event.

4) Outdoor Movie Night

Get out your projector (or check out Amazon for some very affordable projector options – some that can even project movies straight from your smartphone), set up a white sheet or use a portable movie screen and play any of your movies for the whole neighborhood. Have everyone bring snacks and drinks to pass around, and enjoy your favorite flicks in the fresh summer air.

5) Participate in a Race

Whether you participate in a 5k, marathon, relay, triathlon or obstacle course, preparing for a race is a great way to spend your time this summer. Not only will you feel healthier and gain a sense of accomplishment, many races are held in support of a good cause like breast cancer, veterans’ health and childhood poverty, so you’re contributing to something that’s larger than yourself.

6) Help Clean-Up Your Community

Teenagers are leading the way toward a cleaner environment, evidenced by the recent social media phenomenon known as #TrashTag. The idea, started by Instagrammer Byron Román, is simple: “Here is a new #challenge for all you bored teens. Take a photo of an area that needs some cleaning or maintenance, then take a photo after you have done something about it, and post it,” read the caption of the Román’s viral post. Not only will you feel great about yourself by cleaning up part of your community, you’ll give yourself a swarm of massive social media clout.

7) Take Flying Lessons

Nothing will cure your boredom quicker than taking flying lessons. Plus, even if you’ve just entered your teenage years, you can begin flight training at any age. Just note that you will need to be at least 16 years old with a student license in order to fly solo in an airplane, and you must be 17 years old to be eligible for a private pilot certificate.

If you’re interested in trying flying, sign up for a discovery flight and get a first-hand experience on what it’s like to pilot your own aircraft. Inflight Pilot Training, based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, offers affordable introductory discovery flights where you get the chance to take the control wheel yourself and see what it’s like to fly a plane.
